Why can't I use my main domain as sender address?

To achieve the best possible sendout, we need a subdomain that is only configured for dispatch. 
We use this not only as a sender address but also to reference images and links. So only one subdomain is used in the whole mailing. In addition, important entries are set behind the subdomain which are essential for the sendout.
